This is one of the few Mario games with non-Mushroom Kingdom playable characters. If you're only slightly off, however, you'll miss out on the extra distance and lose your Power shot, too. When you start a course, you will only have six Power shots at your disposal, however, if you use one and then get a "perfect" shot (meaning stopping the marker at full power and perfect accuracy) your Power Shot will not be used up and the ball will fly even further, accompanied by a special effect depending on the character - Mario's ball is engulfed in flames, for instance. While that inter-console interoperability (achieved originally via the Transfer Pak) doesn't feature in the Nintendo Switch Online version, being able to revisit the 3D game on a portable is still fantastic the perfect accompaniment to a lovely, languorous Sunday afternoon with an icy drink on the side.Īside from being able to select an "Approach" shot (to get the ball on the green when you're close, but not quite there), you can select a "Power" shot, which makes the ball fly extra far. The pair complement each other brilliantly - the portable game offering a rich RPG-style experience, with this home console entry bringing just the right amount of flair and exuberance to a super-solid round of hitting a tiny ball across the countryside. I'm one of those boring sophisticated people who prefers their Mario sports games to more closely resemble the sport than a Nintendo-themed pyrotechnics show, and the combo of this Mario Golf and its sister title on Game Boy Color is my favourite of all the plumber's sporty exploits. You need to pay attention to the strength of the wind, too, which could send your ball way off course if you don't adjust your shot. The marker immediately starts sliding back right and you stop it as close to the origin point as possible: the closer you are, the more accurate your shot will be. A small marker then moves along the bar from right to left and you press 'A' when it's as close to the far left as possible: the closer it is, the more powerful your swing. For anyone who has never played video game golf, after selecting a club and beginning your swing, a power bar will appear. It's great fun, but you won't be running across the fairway in this game's version of speed golf.Īs standard, you get a number of different clubs to select woods, irons, wedges, depending on the terrain you're hitting off of. Pretty self-evident thanks to that dynamite title, but it's worth highlighting because if you're expecting more of the dazzling spectacle of the mascot's more recent sporting output - games which take some real artistic licence with the rules of the nominal real-world sport - Camelot's first shot in this particular series is a much straighter affair. The pose for scoring birdies, eagles, albatrosses, and hole-in-ones are the same. So, Mario Golf on N64 was almost the first Mario sports game, certainly the first on a home console you played on a TV, and it is what you'd expect: Golf, with Mario. If a whole sequence is formed in one of the columns it is removed from the tableau completely. Your goal when playing Spider solitaire free online is to build stacks of cards on the tableau forming descending suit sequences (from King to Ace). The remaining cards are placed in the stock at the lower right of the layout (face down). In each column, all of the cards are placed face down except for the last one which is upturned. After shuffling, a tableau is set up of a total of 54 cards, placed into ten columns. This is called 4 Suit Spider solitaire and it's the most challenging variation. One of the moderately difficult solitaire games, Spider is played with two standard 52-card decks (no Jokers). So the aim of the Klondike free solitaire game is to eventually take apart all the tableau piles (and empty the stock) by transferring all cards into four stacks (called foundations) in the upper right part, each of the one suit, starting with Aces and ending with Kings. Once you emptied one of the piles completely you can start or move a new pile (or single card) here, starting with a King card. You can move a single card, a part of any pile or a complete pile on top of any other pile, but according to this rule - alternate colors and downwards order. Contrary to that the tableau piles are built down by alternate colors. Foundations are built up by suit, starting from Ace, then Two, Three and up to King. Your goal in free Klondike solitaire is to build the four foundations (in the rectangles in the upper right part). The remaining cards are placed in the stock at the upper left of the layout (face down). In each pile, all of the cards are placed face down except for the last one which is upturned. Their garden, which no longer resembled the trimmed yards of their neighbors, was out of compliance with standards set by the HOA, the letter stated.Probably the favorite free online solitaire among players. Neighbors visited when the yard exploded with color in spring and grew lush in summer.īut everything changed one fall afternoon in 2017, when the Crouches received a certified letter from an attorney representing their homeowners association just before Thanksgiving. The Crouches kept a tally of the butterflies that came every year. Years passed their children grew and the garden thrived. In the backyard, the family planted deep-rooted native ferns, sedges and violets that acted as sponges to filter storm-water runoff. A mowed path of grass ran through methodically tended rows of flowers and shrubs. Caterpillars thrived among the milkweeds, munching on the green leaves. Eastern tiger swallowtail butterflies flocked there to feast on echinacea flowers while nectar-hungry hummingbirds found relief in red cardinal flowers. Their garden soon came to life, and it wasn’t long before it attracted wildlife in search of a haven in the rapidly developing Mid-Atlantic. As they talked with local nursery owners and read online gardening forums, they learned how native plants could be a more environmentally friendly alternative to turf grass. They did not want their two children to play alongside a space sprayed with pesticides, so they began replacing sections of the yard with rows of natives, such as black-eyed Susans and coneflowers. When the Crouches bought their home in 1999, a white two-story Colonial that backed up to a county park, it came with a yard covered with grass. “It would not have happened 20 years ago.” In that has come that conversation of why we need natives.”īennett says visitors increasingly come to the garden to see its collection of native plants, and they arrive with an awareness of natives. “Over the years we’ve really become more mindful of our impact on our world. “There has been an explosion in interest in gardening since covid,” says Amanda Bennett, vice president of horticulture and collections at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. But now there is a problem as soon as I start the game. I have a problem with Red Dead Redemption 2. that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.GPU: NVIDIA Corporation NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060/PCIe/SSE2.Issue transferred from posted on T11:13:43: Compatibility Report Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't start (1174180) Makes it a moot point until the launcher bug is figured out. It’s fairly easy to bypass by making TerminateProcess() a no-op, but even with that, RDR2.exe just launches the launcher (which crashes because of the main bug) and then exits. It thinks a debugger is attached, and then calls TerminateProcess() to exit. RDR2.exe has its own issue where it exits very early because it tries to detect a debugger with a crazy method (direct NT syscalls) that’s not supported by Wine. It's normally supposed to say ERR_NO_LAUNCHER which it does on Windows but not on Wine. When I tried launching the RDR2 exe directly, nothing happend. It's a weird crash and I wasn't able to make much progress troubleshooting it, unfortunately I won't be able to work on it for the next few weeks. I experienced the same crash when using vanilla Wine (and -staging) to launch RDR2 from the launcher outside of Steam as well. This error is due to the launcher crashing before it's able to launch the game, it's not actually related to the files being corrupted. Rockstar's new launcher is causing a few problems of its own. But if you're struggling with stuttering, it's worth a shot until a proper patch rolls out. As with switching from Vulkan to DX12, it's not a guaranteed fix, and it may take some dicking around to get it to kick over. Some commenters say the workaround hasn't helped them but others report success one claimed that disabling two cores and then switching which ones were in use (from cores 0 and 1 to cores 2 and 3) had the desired effect. Right-click the RDR2.exe listing, then select "Set Affinity" from the pop-up menu, and uncheck two of your CPU cores. To do so, start RDR2, switch to the Task Manager, and select the Details tab. Redditor serhangelgor reports that problems with stuttering and freezing can sometimes be remedied by turning off two cores on quad-core CPUs through the Task Manager. There have also been complaints of audio performance problems, but a solution has yet to be uncovered. The various settings, serial numbers, passwords, etc., could hopefully be restored via Migration Assistant from the TM backup. The data itself could easily enough be restored using a simple copy. I am indeed embarrassed to refer to him as "friend") -( Unfortunately, my "friend" has NEVER done a system backup, nor recorded App serial numbers and/or license info, etc. Several attempts to repair the disk were unsuccessful, so I'm now trying to help him recover the apps and data, then format then reformat and reinstall. I was able to load the OS and run diagnostics under Disk Utility, only to discover that the drive was damaged, as expected. I have a friend who owns a 2010 iMac with a bad drive. I have visited many stunning mansions and palaces around the world, and Rosecliff is easily one of my favorites, so much so I got married there. Definitely purchase the recorded guided tour. I do love most of the other mansions in Newport. It's a great way to advertise something AND get an entrance fee to see what you're selling. And I also suspect that's why the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor's Center directs everyone there even though it is NOT the second most spectacular mansion there is to see in Newport. The reason much is closed off is that people can actually rent out this location for private functions like weddings/receptions. The bedrooms are not that impressive, especially if you've seen the Breakers and even Marble House. The kitchen and more is closed off to visitors. Don't get me wrong - it is beautiful and the ballroom that you get to see is quite magnificent. It's spectacular, and clearly the best of all the mansions to visit. When you go to the Newport visitor center, they will tell you the Breakers and the Rosecliff are the two mansions you should see, if nothing else. Ok - this might get some rather bad reactions. We were glad we stopped at the Mansion at Rough Point which the Newport Preservation Foundation has done a terrific job in presenting and preserving. The charm of the gilded age has been diluted in this property. While the mansion is elegant and timeless, there is no sense of the people who summered there anymore. The day we visited was after some sort of event as the tent was still up and in disarray and the grand porch area outside the ballroom had random tables, chairs etc and should have been more presentable for those who paid for admission. Staff member said he didn’t know why they didn’t open the two end rooms, like they were in the past. Upstairs, only one room could be seen that kept the flavor of the mansion and the rest were being used for a museum exhibit, and all other rooms were closed off, and windows were covered. The rooms on the main floor you can visit are the entry, salon, ballroom, library, hallway and dining room. While this is a lovely structure, the rooms have been emptied out and a staff member explained the items had been sent to auction. So we have seen the changes over the years. This was a return trip of us to one of our favorite mansions in Newport, having visited it in every decade since the 1970s. Please Rosecliff, re-open the master bedrooms! So are the gardens and expansive lawn leading to the ocean. The first floor is exceptional and the architecture is the best of all the mansions. Many visitors were complaining upstairs and asking "Is this all there is?" Turns out he wrote several of his biggest musicals at the home but they don't tell you that. And a picture and a couple playbills of Cole Porter - but only if you knew who he was. Portraits of people but you didn't know who they were. Two small rooms were available to see.īut Rosecliff needs to put out historical information around the rooms. All the other bedrooms, including the owners' bedroom suites were closed off and not available. You could tell 1 wing had been a set of bedrooms but was now a gallery and there was no history to tell you what it had been. But their mistake was taking up half of the second floor with an exhibit that tied in with China. It had just undergone a renovation and re-opened. I so wanted to love this house after seeing it in the original The Great Gatsby. The Juice Pack Access charges the iPhone wirelessly, which is inherently inefficient. But those numbers don’t tell the whole story. The earlier model includes a hefty 2200mAh/8.36Wh battery, while Mophie’s newest has a more slender 1840mAh/6.99Wh one. It includes a USB-C port.Īs discussed, the new Juice Pack Air covers the iPhone’s Lightning port, but offers its own that can only be used for power. The Juice Pack Access, which debuted early this year, leaves the handset’s Lighting port open, available to be used with headphones or other accessories. But the differences give each its own advantages. There are similarities - both can power up via wireless charging. Mophie offers battery cases in two different designs for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. Mophie Juice Pack Air vs Juice Pack Access But if you generally run out of power in the evening, you can expect this case to get you through the rest of the day. In our tests, this case was able to raise the battery level in the iPhone 35%, indicating that it’s 60% efficient, the industry average.Įxactly how much that’s going to add to your time between charges depends on how you use your iPhone. Instead, it provides a boost, lengthening the time between charges. The 1840mAh battery at the heart of our sample Juice Pack Air isn’t designed to fully recharge the 3174mAh power cell in our test iPhone XS Max. There are openings for the camera and mute switch. The handsets buttons are have covers that don’t interfere with use. Note the front-facing speaker holes on the Juice Pack Air. These make audio sound louder when the screen is facing the user, a definite benefit when watching video. The designers put in channels that guide the sound toward the user. It also makes the device much less slippery.īecause the Juice Pack Air connects to the iPhone’s Lightning port it covers the whole bottom edge of the iPhone, includng the speakers. Mophie makes no specific promises about ruggedness, but wrapping your iPhone in plastic is certainly going to help protect it from everyday abuse. Just slide the iPhone into the larger bottom piece then slide on the top section.Īs mentioned, this battery case encloses every part of the handset but the screen, and there is a raised lip around the display that keeps it from getting scratched when the device is lying face down. Our tests show these are fairly accurate. The handset is fully charged first, before the case.Īs set of four white LEDs next to the power button gives a rudimentary display of remaining power. That automatically starts current going to the iPhone. The process is different when the case itself is receiving power, either through its Lightning port or wireless charging. To transfer power from this battery case to the iPhone, press and hold a button on the back of Mophie’s add-on. That said, this device was picky about being placed exactly right on a couple of these, and sometimes took a few seconds to make a connection. We read some reports of this accessory having issues with various Qi chargers so we tested it with four different ones from a range of manufacturers. We do a comparison of the Air and the Access later in this review.Ī Lightning cable isn’t the only charging option the Juice Pack Air also supports Qi wireless charging. That might send some potential customers to the Mophie Juice Pack Access, which leaves the Lighting port open. We tested it with headphones and other accessories and none of them worked. Perhaps the only significant drawback of this hardcase is that its Lightning port can only be used for power. The extra height in Mophie’s battery case makes room for the Lightning port, which allows you to charge its battery with the same cable you’d ordinarily use with the iPhone. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac Lightning and wireless charging The battery bulge on the Mophie Juice Pack Air is not too bad. There are also models for the iPhone XS and iPhone XR with different dimensions. Our test version of the Juice Pack Air is for the iPhone XS Max. Unlike heftier options, this is a case we’d be willing to use every day. Mophie’s latest is quite svelte because it offers less power than some of its rivals. Just be aware, when it comes to batteries there’s always a trade off between bulk and storage capacity. The 1840mAh battery fits into a slender bulge on the back. It wraps around all four sides and corners, leaving only the iPhone’s screen open. At first glance, the Juice Pack Air looks like any other hard case. |
